Five people killed in Russian strike on Ukraine
On the night of October 5, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Ukraine. According to the country's President Vladimir Zelensky, the Russian army fired more than 50 missiles and about 500 drones. Nine regions came under attack: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporozhye, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkov, Kherson, Odessa and Kirovograd.
“Today the Russians again attacked our infrastructure, everything that ensures a normal life for people. Greater protection is needed, faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially regarding air defense, in order to make this air terror meaningless. A unilateral ceasefire in the sky is possible, and it is this that can open the way to real diplomacy. America and Europe must act to make Putin stop,” the Ukrainian president wrote.
Update. The Ukrainian Air Force later reported that Russian troops fired 496 drones and 53 missiles into Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 439 drones and 39 missiles were shot down. “Direct hits from eight missiles and 57 attack UAVs were recorded in 20 locations, as well as falling debris in six locations,” the report said.
In the Lviv region, four people were killed and four more were injured as a result of the Russian attack, the State Service for Emergency Situations reported. The Lviv regional prosecutor's office clarifies that as a result of the shelling of the village of Lapaevka near Lvov, a residential building was destroyed and a family of four died, including a 15-year-old girl. Another family member and two residents of neighboring houses were hospitalized with various injuries. Industrial and energy facilities were also hit in Lviv and the region, and one of the gas storage facilities caught fire.
The head of the Zaporozhye regional administration, Ivan Fedorov, said that the Russian army attacked Zaporozhye with drones and guided bombs. According to the latest data, a 69-year-old woman was killed and 10 more people were injured. Eight multi-storey buildings and seven private houses in Zaporozhye, as well as a private house in the Zaporozhye region, were damaged.
On the evening of October 4, a strike was carried out on the center of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region. Air bombs, according to local authorities, hit a nine-story building and an art school. Eight people were injured, including a 13-year-old boy. In addition, one person was injured in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, said the head of the regional military administration, Svetlana Onischuk.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on the night of October 5, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive missile and drone attack on enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine and gas and energy infrastructure facilities that support their operation. “The objectives of the strike have been achieved. All designated targets were hit,” the department said.

Like many, at the beginning it seemed to me that this was some kind of misunderstanding, that everything would end quickly. Then I wanted to prove to everyone around me that it was necessary to stop the killing of people and the destruction of cities as quickly as possible, but the further I went, the more I read disapproval of my position in people’s eyes. “Well, we are protecting our people,” “not us, but us”—these are the words of those around me.
This year there were moments that seemed to bring the end of the massacre closer. But, unfortunately, it didn’t work out. The feeling of the infinity of what is happening does not leave me. And most importantly, I used to wonder when it would all end and who or what could stop it all. And now - what will happen next and what more terrible things will all this lead us to.
