On August 2, a resident of the city of Kemerovo, Semyon Karmanov, died at the front, who had a third group disability received in childhood and was diagnosed with delayed intellectual development. Karmanov’s sister Anastasia told Mediazona about this.
The notice from the military registration and enlistment office states that Karmanov died as a result of a head wound. He was buried in a closed coffin. Other circumstances of the death are unknown to the relatives.
Semyon Karmanov was 27 years old. He was drafted into the army in 2023 from a colony where he was serving time for theft. Karmanov was supposed to be released in April 2024, but in the fall of 2023 he signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense.
Karmanov’s mother Svetlana said that because of the diagnosis , her son never learned to read. She assumed that Semyon was forced to sign the contract, taking advantage of his gullibility. “He couldn’t read it [the paper], and these cops from the zone took advantage of this! A disabled person - to hell with him,” said Svetlana.
According to Semyon’s sister Anastasia, his brother told her that he was under pressure in the colony. “I understood that he thought that if he didn’t agree, then, for example, he would have to serve a longer sentence in the same zone,” she said.
