Visa and MasterCard cards will continue to work in Russia, said Alla Bakina, director of the national payment system department of the Central Bank, writes TASS.

According to Bakina, there will be no “sharp steps” to disable cards in Russia. TASS does not provide any other details.

• Earlier, the General Director of the National Payment Card System (NSCP) Dmitry Dubynin said in an interview with RBC that in Russia it is necessary to limit the operation of Visa and Mastercard cards with an expired expiration date - due to the fact that from January 1, 2025, security certificates in the chips of such cards ceased to be valid. According to him, NSPK is negotiating with banks about how long it will take to withdraw cards from circulation. After this, the “general opinion of the market” will be presented to the Bank of Russia.
• Russian banks have extended the terms of operation of Visa and Mastercard cards or made them unlimited after the departure of these foreign payment systems from Russia in the spring of 2022.
