President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree on the creation of a city military administration in Odessa. The head of the Dnepropetrovsk region, Sergei Lysak, was appointed its head.

The administration of the Dnepropetrovsk region will be temporarily headed by Vladislav Gayvanenko, who was previously Lysak’s first deputy, follows from the corresponding decree of the President of Ukraine.

“Today I am completing my work as head of the Dnepropetrovsk OVA [regional military administration]. Behind us is a significant journey covered in more than 2.5 years,” Lysak commented in his Telegram channel.

He also thanked Zelensky for his trust and added that “no less important tasks lie ahead.”

The day before, October 14, Zelensky signed a decree depriving the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov of Ukrainian citizenship. Because of this, he automatically lost his post.

The reason for the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship, according to Zelensky, was that the SBU discovered Trukhanov’s Russian citizenship. The ex-mayor of Odessa himself stated that the question of whether he has a Russian passport has been discussed in the media since 2014 - since then he has constantly explained that he never had one.

Earlier, a petition appeared on the president’s website demanding that Trukhanov be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship. The authors of the document emphasized that journalists reported that the official had Russian citizenship.

The petition also stated that Trukhanov “defends narratives beneficial to the aggressor state, and also protects monuments containing symbols of Russian imperial policy.” Previously, the mayor of Odessa opposed the demolition of monuments to Alexander Pushkin, Catherine II and other figures associated with Russia.

In addition, the authors stated that people died as a result of a rainstorm in Odessa at the end of September - this “further exacerbated mistrust in the head of the city.” A petition demanding that Trukhanov be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship received more than 25 thousand signatures in less than 24 hours.
