A court in The Hague finally decided to pay $50 billion to ex-YUKOS shareholders.

The Supreme Court of the Netherlands in The Hague made a final decision on the payment of $50 billion to ex-YUKOS shareholders, rejecting Russia's cassation appeal. The press service of the court reported this.

In 2014, international arbitration in The Hague ordered Russia to pay compensation to former shareholders - Hulley Enterprises, Veteran Petroleum and Yukos Universal. The court found that in the early 2000s, Russian authorities illegally nationalized Yukos after the arrest of Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Russia has repeatedly appealed this decision.

Khodorkovsky called the court’s decision a “personal victory” and “the final point on all claims […] on the part of Putin’s “law enforcement officers”.”

“Thanks to those who spent 20 years of their lives on this process and, first of all, to my friend Leonid Nevzlin. This is the most powerful blow to the Putin regime in the legal field,” Khodorkovsky wrote.
