Radiy Khabirov on Saturday morning spoke about the victims and destruction from yesterday's explosion at the Avangard plant in Sterlitamak.
“Unfortunately, three people died, all women. Among them is a young girl born in 2002. Two women still have children... Five people are in the hospital... Two are in quite serious condition, the rest are in moderate condition.”
And the plant's workshop building received serious damage.
Investigators are studying what led to the explosion at what the head of the region called a “quite old” enterprise.
Avangard produces industrial explosives and ammunition under government contracts. Khabirov said that the plant will continue to produce “products needed by the state.”
