On Sakhalin, the director of a school where students were shown the abortion process was fined

The decision was made nine months after the incident

A court on Sakhalin fined the director of Okha School No. 7, Elena Merena, 7 thousand rubles for showing students a film with footage of a surgical abortion. “Vorstka” found the appellate court’s ruling on this fine in the court file.

The prosecutor's office considered that this information was harmful to the health of children and did not correspond to age restrictions

The protocol against Merena was drawn up under the article on the dissemination of information harmful to the development of children (Part 1 of Article 6.17 of the Administrative Code). The magistrate considered it back in June, but the decision was not published then.

Merena appealed the fine because, in her opinion, it was imposed “illegally and unreasonably.” From the decision of the appellate instance, it follows that a protocol was drawn up against the director for showing a video with “the process of artificial abortion during which the projection screen shows a close-up of the internal female genital organ with biological material (blood), from which the fetus is extracted using medical syringes.”

The prosecutor's office considered that all this was contrary to the law “On the protection of children from information harmful to their health and development.” In addition, the screening included students under 16 years of age, which is the age limit for abortion videos.

Merena herself stated that she did not watch the recording before showing it to schoolchildren, although she was “obliged to make sure that the videos planned to be shown to minors were not capable of causing harm to their health.” As a result, the judge rejected the appeal and upheld the fine.

A demonstration of surgical abortion in front of students at Okha School No. 7 took place in September last year. The students said that they were gathered in the assembly hall before classes, while almost nothing was said about the event itself in advance. The screening was accompanied by a lecture about how “you can’t have an abortion, because it can be fatal for a girl and she can become infertile.”

Let us recall that earlier “Verstka” reported that one of the Orthodox charitable foundations offers teachers 1,500 rubles per lesson for anti-abortion classes in schools and universities according to their training manual.
