Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said his country will be freed from US sanctions that prevented oil and gas supplies from Russia. “Hungary will be completely exempt from sanctions regarding gas supplies via the Turkish Stream and oil via the Friendship pipeline,” Orban said after his meeting with Trump.

US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of releasing Hungary from sanctions imposed against Russian oil. He stated this during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who arrived at the White House.

“We are considering this option because it is very difficult for him [Orban] to get oil and gas from other regions. As you know, they do not have the advantage of access to the sea,” Trump was quoted as saying by Reuters.

As previously expected, the topic of sanctions and energy will become one of the main topics at the negotiations between the leaders of the United States and Hungary. In addition, Trump said, trade and the Russian-Ukrainian war will be discussed at the meeting.

During the public part of the meeting, in the presence of the press, Trump and Orban agreed that a victory for Ukraine would require a “miracle.” At the same time, both are confident that the war will end soon.

When asked why Trump did not meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, he replied: “The main problem is that they just don’t want to stop yet. But I think they will do it. In my opinion, this has a great impact on Russia.”
