Sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky, convicted in the case of “justification of terrorism,” was sent to a punishment cell instead of hospitalization

Update. Sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky was released from the punishment cell on November 10, Rabkor reported . Kagarlitsky told the lawyer who visited him that he was sent to a punishment cell for three days for “mess in the nightstand.” The sociologist is sure that “this was not the initiative of the colony.”

Sociologist and publicist Boris Kagarlitsky, convicted in the case of “justification of terrorism,” was sent to a punishment cell in a penal colony for three days.

This was reported by the Rabkor publication, whose editor-in-chief is Kagarlitsky, with reference to the sociologist’s relatives. As Rabkor emphasizes, the colony administration promised to hospitalize Kagarlitsky. Colleagues and relatives of Kagarlitsky demand that he be immediately sent for treatment, the report says.

On October 20, lawyer Yulia Kuznetsova reported, writes Mediazona, that Kagarlitsky’s health condition worsened and his blood pressure began to rise. The lawyer appealed to the colony administration with a request to hospitalize Kagarlitsky. On November 1, Kagarlitsky himself reported a deterioration in his health. In an appeal published by Rabkor, the sociologist said that he “had some problems” with blood pressure and vision. Kagarlitsky wrote that the issue of sending him to a hospital is being considered, and until then he is receiving help in the medical unit of the colony.

In December 2023, Kagarlitsky was sentenced to a fine of 600 thousand rubles. The prosecutor's office later appealed the verdict, and in February 2024, the sociologist was sentenced to five years in a general regime colony.
