Artist Erik Bulatov died

The artist and sculptor Erik Bulatov died at the age of 92, TASS reported on November 9, citing the press service of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Eric Bulatov is the founder of Sots Art, a movement of postmodern art that originated in the USSR during the years of stagnation.

Bulatov is a representative of Soviet unofficial art of the 1970s - “Moscow conceptualism”. In his paintings, Bulatov often worked with text, type and Soviet verbal formulas, combining them with realistic images.

One of his most famous works is the painting “Glory to the CPSU” from 1975. It was sold in 2008 for $2.1 million, which then made Bulatov the most expensive Russian artist, writes The Art Newspaper Russia.

Since 1989, the artist lived in New York, and in 1992 he moved to Paris. He often exhibited in Russia.
