Three years ago Russia left Kherson - but continues to bomb it

Three years ago, on November 9, 2022, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian troops were leaving Kherson after eight months of occupation. This became possible thanks to the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kherson region, which began at the end of August 2022. Although the city has returned to Ukrainian control, Kherson residents still continue to survive in front-line conditions. Some residential areas have been destroyed and continue to be subject to Russian strikes and drone attacks; the damaged infrastructure in such conditions cannot be restored. About 60 thousand people remain in Kherson and try to maintain a normal life. On the third anniversary of the liberation of Kherson, Meduza is publishing photographs taken in this city over the past year.
