Trump promised to pay US citizens two thousand dollars from tariff revenues

US President Donald Trump, defending his tariff campaign, said that the authorities would pay citizens two thousand dollars from the budget.

“Everyone will be paid a dividend of at least $2,000 per person (not including high income people!),” Trump wrote on his Truth Social.

When exactly and how the US authorities will pay “dividends”, as well as who they consider “high-income people”, the president did not specify. From the post it can be concluded that funds for payments will be taken from revenues from import duties imposed by Trump.

The US leader called opponents of US tariffs “fools.” “We are now the richest and most respected country in the world, with virtually zero inflation and record share prices on the stock market. We are receiving trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying off our massive $37 trillion debt,” he added in the post.

  • Donald Trump has imposed trade tariffs on 180 countries and territories since returning to the White House in 2025. By mid-September, the government had earned about $90 billion in tariffs, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
  • Although Trump and his administration claim that foreign suppliers pay the tariffs, most of the costs fall on American importers, NPR notes . In turn, small businesses and consumers face rising prices.
  • The US Supreme Court on November 5 began considering the legality of the tariffs, which lower courts had already declared illegal.
