The Kremlin commented on the latest rounds of Ukrainian peace negotiations, the possibility of contacts between Putin and Trump

The Kremlin is awaiting decisions from Washington after negotiations that took place between representatives of the American delegation and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on December 2.

“ We are waiting for the reaction of our American colleagues to the discussion we had on Tuesday ,” Ushakov told reporters on December 5, Russian news agencies reported.

On December 2, Putin met in Moscow with the special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff and the son-in-law of the American President Jared Kushner.

The talks took place after the US and Ukrainian delegations held talks in Geneva on November 23. At the meeting, representatives of Kiev and Washington tried to agree on the text of a peace agreement prepared by the United States.

According to two delegations and American media, the parties have made progress in the negotiations, but disagreements remain on some key issues. In particular, we are talking about disagreements around the need to cede to Russia a number of territories controlled by Kyiv.

Ushakov also added that there are no plans to organize contacts between Putin and Trump. “ As soon as the prerequisites are created for contacts between the presidents either by telephone or at a face-to-face meeting, this will all be done quickly enough ,” he added.

After negotiations on December 2 in Moscow, Ushakov said that the meeting discussed, in particular, “ territorial problems, without which we do not see a resolution to the crisis .”

At the same time, the aide to the Russian president added that “ there is still a lot of work to be done both in Washington and in Moscow .” Ushakov did not provide details, but some Russian media concluded that the parties do not yet have a compromise on the territorial issue.
