A bust of the son of the deputy director of the CIA, private Russian army Michael Gloss , and a bust of his colleague Corporal Ivan Kokovin, who died on April 4, 2024 in the Russian-Ukrainian war, were installed on the territory of school No. 115 in Donetsk. The Russian-appointed head of the annexed city, Alexei Kulemzin, announced this on December 9.

A sign was attached to the bust of Gloss with the inscription: “A soldier is not a profession, but a calling. There is no foreign land for those who fight for justice.” It is also stated that he died “in a fierce battle for Chasov Yar” when he “provided assistance to a wounded comrade in arms.” At the end of the sign it says in English: “May the heroes be glorified!” (“Let the heroes be glorified!”).

Second busts in the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Another pair of busts of Gloss and Kokovin was installed on the same day in the village of Otrok in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where Kokovin is from. This was reported by deputy of the regional legislative assembly Egor Vasiliev. Judging by the photographs he published, the busts are identical to those in Donetsk. But the plaque dedicated to Gloss states that he helped a “Russian comrade,” but there is no inscription in English.

Who is Michael Gloss

Michael Gloss is the son of American military personnel. His mother Julian is deputy director of the CIA, his father Larry is a US Navy veteran and the head of a company that develops software, including for the Pentagon.

Gloss arrived in Russia in August 2023, visited several cities, then signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and went to the front in December. He died in April 2024. He was buried in the USA eight months later, “Important Stories” found out.

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave Gloss's parents the Russian Order of Courage, which Michael was awarded posthumously. The award was presented by US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
