A piece of pork almost killed a Muscovite

In Moscow, a man, whose name has not been released, almost died because of a piece of pork he ate. A message about this appeared in the official telegram channel of the health department of the capital city hall. They noted that the cause was not problems with the quality of meat, but a rare syndrome.

As it turned out, the man had an allergy to pork, the manifestation of which suddenly led to a heart attack. “The attack occurred immediately after eating and led to cardiogenic shock, although previously it only caused urticaria. This is a rare case of type 1 Kounis syndrome,” the Department of Health reported.

“Kounis syndrome is an acute coronary syndrome (eg, myocardial infarction, coronary artery spasm, or unstable angina) caused by an allergic reaction. The combination of anaphylaxis and acute coronary syndrome is extremely rare. Symptoms can be masked, which makes diagnosis difficult,” explained Maria Naumova, head of the anesthesiology and intensive care department of City Clinical Hospital (CCH) No. 15. She added that the diagnosis was confirmed by test results.

According to the Department of Health, a patient diagnosed with “acute coronary syndrome, cardiogenic shock” was taken by ambulance to City Clinical Hospital No. 15, where doctors successfully treated the acute condition, and after recovery he was discharged with recommendations.
