The German Chancellor compared Putin to Hitler

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz compared Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler and said that the Kremlin will not stop if Ukraine is captured, Politico reported .

“Just as the Sudetenland [the then existing Czechoslovakia] was not enough in 1938, Putin will not stop. If Ukraine falls, he will not stop there. This is Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine – and against Europe,” Merz said on the evening of Saturday, December 13.

According to him, Putin's goal is "a fundamental change in the borders of Europe and the restoration of the Soviet Union within its borders."

Last weekend, representatives from Germany, Britain and France met to discuss proposals to end the war in Ukraine. The leaders of these countries, Merz, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to hold talks today.

In addition, on Sunday, December 14, negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations were held in Berlin. Following their results, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that “significant progress” had been made in discussing the peace plan.

At the same time, a source from The Wall Street Journal said that US representatives do not want to compromise with Ukraine on the peace plan. Disagreements remain on the issue of territories, the source of the American publication added.

Now the main focus of politicians is on the peace plan developed by the United States to end the war in Ukraine, which, in particular, provides for territorial concessions on the part of Kyiv. According to one of the proposals under consideration, Donbass will become a free trade zone in which American companies will be able to operate freely, Politico added.
