Google users are now allowed to change their email address for the first time

Previously, it was impossible to change an address that ended in “@gmail.com”. The innovations have not yet affected all regions of the world, but Google is gradually expanding access to this function, introducing it in different countries, reports 9to5Google.

This is the first time a Google support post about allowing users to change their email address has appeared in Hindi. At the same time, on the English-language page it was written that changing the address “usually cannot be done.” The page, presented in Russian, stated that the new feature “is not yet available to all users.” However, Google adds that the ability to change your email address is gradually being rolled out worldwide.

After changing the address, the old e-mail will remain and continue to work, Google said. In this case, letters will arrive both to the previous and new addresses. The original email address will remain associated with the account and can be used to access mail, photos and other data. Google promises not to share it with other users.

Users will only be able to change the address on one account three times. As stated in Google articles, the new e-mail cannot be changed or deleted for a year.

The news was drawn to the attention of First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin. “I would still recommend that Russian users change their address not within the Gmail circuit, but move to Russian postal services. This could be important in the coming year,” Gorelkin wrote .

Earlier, State Duma deputies in the first reading adopted a bill according to which the owners of Russian websites could be fined up to 700 thousand rubles if their services offer authorization using foreign email.
