Information about an attempted drone attack on Vladimir Putin’s residence in Valdai will complicate further negotiations on Donald Trump’s peace plan. Bloomberg reports this, citing sources. After the incident, Moscow decided to reconsider its negotiating position.

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump discussed what happened on December 29 during a telephone conversation - the second in two days.

According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Trump was allegedly “shocked” and “literally outraged.” The American leader himself said that he did not know about the possible attack, but “was very angry” because “now is not the right time for all this.”

According to Ushakov, the attack occurred shortly after negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations , which took place on December 28 at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. Then Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced “95% progress” in discussing the peace plan.

Moscow's version and the Kremlin's reaction

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was the first to report the attempted attack. According to him, on the night of December 29, Ukraine deployed 91 long-range drones, all of them were destroyed by air defense systems. The Kremlin regarded the incident as a terrorist attack.

“Indeed, this is a terrorist act aimed at disrupting the negotiation process. Directed not only against President Putin personally, but also against Trump,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Answering a journalist’s question about whether Moscow has evidence of an attempted attack and whether the country’s leadership plans to make it public, Peskov said that the drone attack on Putin’s residence was widespread, so there is no need to separately present physical evidence of what happened.

“I don’t think there should be any evidence here if such a massive raid of drones is carried out, which, thanks to well-functioning air defense, were shot down and neutralized,” Peskov said.

He also called the claim that there was no attack “pretty crazy.”

“As for the wreckage, naturally, this is a topic for our military. We see that Zelensky himself is trying to deny this, many Western media, playing along with the Kyiv regime, are starting to spread the theme that this did not happen, but this is a rather crazy statement,” added the presidential press secretary.

Peskov also recalled Zelensky’s Christmas address.

“Today we all have the same dream. And we make one wish for everyone. “For him to die,” everyone will say to themselves, but when we turn to God, of course, we ask more broadly,” the Ukrainian leader said, but did not specify who he meant. The Kremlin called Zelensky's address uncivilized and angry.

Lavrov stressed that Kyiv’s actions will not go unanswered: the targets and timing of attacks on Ukrainian targets have been determined, and Russia’s negotiating position will be adjusted. At the same time, Moscow does not intend to withdraw from peace negotiations.

Trump, in turn, admitted that Ukraine’s involvement in this attack is now being verified. He also noted that the incident influenced the US approach in relations with Vladimir Zelensky.

Kyiv denies accusations of attack on Putin's residence

Ukrainian authorities have rejected accusations of involvement in the attack. Zelensky called Lavrov’s statement another lie and warned that Russia could be preparing another attack on government buildings in the center of Kiev.

“Now there have been very dangerous statements from Russia, which are obviously aimed at disrupting all the achievements of our joint work with President Trump’s team. We are working together to bring peace closer,” Zelensky noted.

Russia has so far not provided any credible evidence to its accusations against Ukraine of an attack on Putin's residence , said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga. “And it won’t provide it. Because they don't exist. There was no such attack,” said the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on the social network Kh.

Zelensky about a possible conversation with Putin

At the same time, Zelensky, in a conversation with Fox News, said that in the event of a potential conversation with Putin, he would raise the issue of territories and the cause of the war.

“I think it would be useful to talk to him, not because I want to. I don't want to talk to him. He is my enemy. But I think it’s important to talk to him for only one reason - we must understand that we don’t want a third world war from Russia,” Zelensky said.

At the same time, Zelensky noted the complete lack of trust between the parties.
