A 33-year-old music teacher has been arrested in Australia on charges of sexually abusing schoolchildren and possessing child pornography. This was reported by local publications 7News and News.com.au.
According to investigators, the crimes were committed in the city of Mandurah from 2024 to 2025. Before her arrest, a teacher named Naomi Tekea Craig worked at the Frederick Irvine Anglican School, where she taught music to children.
It is reported that the woman was arrested on January 6. She was charged with two counts of rape of a schoolchild over 13 and under 16, possession of child pornography and systematic sexual abuse of a minor.
The director of the private school, Tracy Gray, said that after the arrest, the teacher was suspended from work and banned from appearing on the territory of the school.
“A teacher at our school has been arrested by the police and charged with child-related offenses that do not involve any of the current students,” the school said in a letter addressed to the students’ parents.
Western Australia Police told reporters that "child protection remains its top priority."
“We recognize that reports of crimes against children are deeply troubling for the public. Our detectives and support teams are working tirelessly to investigate these cases and provide assistance to victims,” the police officer said.
The first court hearing in the defendant's case will take place on January 27.
Daily Mail writes that Craig is married and is now pregnant with her second child. The teacher, known as Mrs. Woods at school because of her husband's last name, was active in the school's musical activities, including choirs, concerts and Christmas carols at malls, according to the tabloid.
