On January 7, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed 37-year-old US citizen and mother of three Renee Nicole Goode. Her car ended up in the path of ICE agents during one of the department's operations. US authorities accused the victim of "domestic terrorism", saying she tried to prevent ICE officers from doing their work, blocking their path and running over one of them. This version is also supported in the White House. In particular, US President Donald Trump believes that the agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Goode “in self-defense.” Journalists who analyzed video recordings of the incident from different angles concluded that it is at least unclear whether Good hit the ICE officer with her car, and the agent began shooting when she tried to drive away from him. Experts interviewed by Reuters believe the agent's actions require a thorough investigation. One of them admitted that this could be a case where an ICE officer, knowingly or not, created a dangerous situation in which he had to use a weapon. In turn, Vice President J.D. Vance called the death of Renee Nicole Good "a tragedy of her own making." Anti-immigration protests took place in Minneapolis—and across the country.
