The most dangerous country named

For the sixth year in a row, the level of peacefulness on the planet has been declining. Russia ranked last in this indicator, according to the annual report of the Institute of Economics and Peace.

In total, there are 163 countries on the list. They were compared on indicators such as crime rates, political stability and freedom, as well as the degree of involvement in military conflicts. According to the total estimates of analysts, Russia took the last 163rd place. Ukraine is in second to last place.

Along with Russia, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Yemen were ranked among the most unsafe countries. The top ten safest countries included Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore, Portugal, Denmark, Slovenia and Finland.

According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, the average level of peacefulness decreased by 0.36% compared to the previous year, and overall there has been no improvement in this indicator since 2013. Thus, 97 countries have become less safe and friendly than they were in 2008.

There are currently 59 active conflicts in the world, the highest number since World War II. The average share of defense spending in GDP increased by 2.5%, reaching its highest level since 2010. The level of successful conflict resolution has also declined, and is at a 50-year historical low.

Experts recognized Western and Central Europe as the most peaceful region, while the Middle East and North Africa turned out to be the most unsafe. The only region that has improved its “peacefulness” on average is South America.
