The cult mobile game Subway Surfers will receive a sequel. The developers have planned the release of the second part on February 26, reports studio SYBO.
14 years have passed since the release of the first part. During this time, Subway Surfers became the most downloaded mobile game in history, with more than 4.5 billion downloads, and a monthly audience of between 100 and 150 million active players. The sequel will be called Subway Surfers City and will be released on two platforms: iOS and Android.
“Experience an entirely new way to navigate the Subway universe—stunning visuals, challenging handcrafted missions, and new mechanics that bring fresh energy to every run,” the developer's website says.
The new part will slightly change the concept of the game. If in the first part players could travel around the world, now the action will take place in one fictional metropolis, Subway City, divided into several parts. On the release day of the sequel, four unique locations will be available: Docks, Southline, Sunrise Boulevard and DeLorean Park.
The gameplay for the Subway Surfers sequel will be different. The developers announced that they have added new mechanics to the game: accelerating panels, kicking and a protective jumping shield. There will also be three main modes: the usual endless race with a gradual acceleration of locations and obstacles, a story-driven “City Tour” with tasks, as well as an “Event Mode”, which will be tied to certain dates and will operate for a limited amount of time.
