Putin once again accused NATO of ignoring Russian interests

During his speech, Vladimir Putin once again repeated the official theses about the “reasons of the SVO.” Thus, according to him, the “Ukrainian crisis” was a direct consequence of many years of ignoring Russia’s interests and creating threats to its security. The key mistake, he said, was the refusal to take into account the principle of indivisible security, according to which the security of some states cannot be ensured at the expense of others.

“This principle is enshrined in fundamental international legal documents. Neglecting it has never led to anything good,” the president noted, pointing out that NATO expansion to Russian borders has become one of the factors in the current conflict.

Moreover, after the start of the war, Finland and Sweden joined NATO due to fears of Russian aggression.

Putin called for a return to the concept of “compromise and balance of interests of leading powers”

Separately, Putin focused on the role of the UN, emphasizing that Russia consistently advocates strengthening its central importance in world affairs. Putin recalled that the UN Charter was adopted 80 years ago after World War II as the result of a compromise and a balance of interests of the leading powers. “Then we managed to agree on the fundamental rules of international communication,” the head of state emphasized. According to him, the principles of equality of states, respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs and resolution of disputes through dialogue remain relevant today.

The President also stated that Russia is open to restoring cooperation with European countries and is interested in returning to the required level of interaction. “We are open to mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries, without exception,” Putin emphasized, adding that Moscow has always advocated an equal and pragmatic dialogue.

According to Trump, Vladimir Putin is allegedly ready to make a deal, while Ukraine is less ready for it.

Trump did not give specific arguments as to what exactly Zelensky’s “unpreparedness” is, limiting himself to the phrase: “I just think it’s difficult for him to approach this.”

Trump also did not rule out the possibility of a future meeting with Zelensky at the World Economic Forum, which will be held in Davos from January 19 to 23, but noted that there are no specific plans yet.
