Maria Corino Machado arrived for a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. There she gave Trump her Nobel Peace Prize medal, which she would receive in 2025. She called the meeting itself “historic” and “incredible.”

Trump later wrote on Truth Social that Machado was “a wonderful woman who has been through a lot.”

“Maria presented me with the Nobel Peace Prize for my work. It was a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you, Maria!”

Earlier, the head of the White House said that he did not support Machado’s intention to take power into his own hands after the Americans captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. According to Trump's leader, it would be difficult for Machado to lead the country because she does not have enough popular support.
As The Washington Post wrote , Trump did not want to support Machado, partly because of the Nobel Peace Prize he was awarded. According to the publication’s interlocutor, if she had refused the award in favor of the head of the White House, she would now be the president of Venezuela.
Machado later stated that she was ready to give the award to Trump for the successful operation to overthrow Maduro. After this, the Nobel Committee spoke out : they noted that the title of laureate, unlike the medal itself, cannot be transferred.
