Putin approved the creation of an AI headquarters

A national headquarters for artificial intelligence will appear in Russia, led by Deputy Head of the Administration Maxim Oreshkin and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko. The proposal, agreed upon by the presidential administration and the government, was supported by Vladimir Putin, Kommersant reports .

The publication calls this a “two-key” scheme. Grigorenko oversees the government’s digital agenda, but his powers are limited: Oreshkin’s inclusion in the work is most likely due to the need to intensify the implementation of AI by “security” and “presidential” departments, the publication writes.

It is expected that the headquarters will include heads of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Digital Development, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, as well as representatives of the FSB and the Ministry of Defense. Separately, a subcommittee on AI will be created, headed by Grigorenko, and specialized commissions in the regions led by governors.

Among the main tasks of the headquarters are “coordinating the activities” of federal departments, regions and “interested organizations” in the development and implementation of AI technologies, approving targets, removing obstacles and increasing efficiency. The plans include the export of Russian AI solutions to “friendly” countries and the construction of data processing centers abroad.
