In Russia, a failure of the Leonardo system paralyzed air ticket sales

And the number of flights delayed in 2025 doubled due to drone attacks

Major Russian airlines experienced a global failure in the operation of the Leonardo reservation system (Sirena-Travel). Due to a technical malfunction, sales and operations with air tickets on official websites, contact centers and ticket offices of carriers throughout the country have been stopped.

“Due to a global failure in the Leonardo (Sirena-Travel) booking system , the issuance, re-issuance and return of tickets and additional services in all airline sales channels (website, contact center, agents) is temporarily limited,” Pobeda Airlines reported on its telegram channel.

During the outage, the customer check-in system at airports was put into manual mode for several hours until the platform was restored. By evening, the airlines reported that the reservation system was working again.

The failure affected the largest airlines - Aeroflot, Rossiya, Pobeda, Ural Airlines, Utair, Red Wings, Aurora, Rusline, Yamal, Alrosa, Izhavia and others.

The reasons for the booking system failures are unknown. As Vorstka previously reported, in July 2025, the hacker groups Silent Crow and CyberPartisans BY announced an attack on Aeroflot , as a result of which “the internal IT infrastructure” of the company was completely compromised and destroyed.

In 2025, the number of delayed flights doubled due to drone attacks.

In 2025, the number of flights delayed by three hours or more doubled, according to calculations by AlfaStrakhovanie for Kommersant. About 4.5 million passengers on 30.5 thousand flights waited more than three hours for departure, of which 3 million waited more than four hours. The share of flights departing on schedule decreased from 71% to 59%.

The main reason for delays remained restrictions on airport operations due to the threat of drone attacks . One of the publication’s interlocutors noted that “at the largest airports, micromanagement and manual control have been greatly strengthened to quickly clear queues of planes and passengers, which is lacking in a number of regional airports.”

Also, as Vorstka wrote, there is a shortage of aircraft in Russian airlines. Thus, by 2030, Russian aviation may lose about 340 aircraft due to the unavailability of spare parts and maintenance. This is a third of the Russian aircraft fleet.

In October 2025, Kommersant notes, carriers asked the Ministry of Transport to consider the possibility of state support. But at the beginning of 2026, the head of the department, Andrei Nikitin, told TASS that there was no question of compensation for damage to airlines from the “Carpet” plan, which was introduced due to the threat of drones. According to Nikitin, the Ministry of Transport “is trying to support companies in terms of other priorities.”
