US President Donald Trump wants to create conditions for regime change in Iran and is considering various options as part of this, sources told Reuters.

Options include launching targeted strikes on Iran’s leadership and security forces, one of the agency’s interlocutors said. According to him, in this way Trump hopes to inspire the citizens of the Islamic Republic after the protests have subsided due to repression and violence.

Another Reuters source said the White House was considering a more powerful strike against Iran's ballistic missiles or nuclear facilities. This may be due to the fact that the Islamic Republic is not ready for negotiations over its nuclear program.

CNN sources also said that the United States is considering the possibility of a new large-scale strike on Iran due to the failure of preliminary discussions between Washington and Tehran on limiting the Iranian nuclear program.

According to them, Washington and Tehran previously exchanged messages through diplomats from Oman, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Abbas Araghchi.

Even the possibility of face-to-face negotiations was discussed for a short time, one of CNN's interlocutors said, without explaining at what level. As a result, the meeting did not take place, he said. Another source for the publication said that no serious direct negotiations have been held in recent days.

The CNN report said the US could set preconditions for a meeting with Iranian officials. These are said to include a permanent halt to uranium enrichment, limiting the range of the Islamic Republic's ballistic missiles and ending support for militant groups in the region. Iran responded to this by saying that it was ready to discuss only its nuclear program.
