"Mediazona" published a complete list of dead and missing on the cruiser "Moscow"

Journalists from Mediazona and the BBC Russian Service, together with a team of volunteers, identified the names of 20 dead sailors and eight more missing as a result of the Ukrainian strike on the Russian missile cruiser Moskva.

Earlier in January, the 2nd Western District Military Court disclosed data on losses on the cruiser, admitting that it sank after a Ukrainian missile attack. The commander of the 406th artillery brigade of the Ukrainian Navy, Andrei Shubin, was found guilty of destroying the cruiser and was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment. Soon this publication disappeared from the court website.

Mediazona published the first complete list of sailors who died on the cruiser Moskva. According to the official registers of the Russian Federation, eight people from this list have not yet been formally declared dead.

According to the publication, at least 20 of the dead were conscripts. Most of the dead sailors - 15 people - lived in annexed Crimea or Sevastopol, three people were called up for military service from the regions of the Far East.

The Russian authorities and the Ministry of Defense have still not published the list of those killed on the cruiser.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the cruiser Moskva on April 13, 2022. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that there was a fire on board, which caused the detonation of ammunition and subsequent flooding. Ukraine claimed that the cruiser was hit by two Neptune missiles. The cruiser sank on April 14.

The Russian Ministry of Defense initially reported that one person was killed and 27 sailors were missing. A Meduza source close to the command of the Black Sea Fleet said that 37 people were killed. A court in Sevastopol declared 17 sailors dead in November 2022. The Russian service of the BBC and Mediazona reported in January 2023 that they had identified the names of 22 dead crew members.

On the second anniversary of the death of the cruiser Moskva, a monument to the deceased crew was unveiled in Sevastopol. It contains the names, surnames, dates of life and ranks of 21 sailors. For 19 of them, the date of death is April 13, 2022.
