Moscow has the snowiest January in 200 years. The Mius Dune is back!
This is what the city looks like now
At the end of January, another heavy snowfall covered Moscow due to a cyclone. It snowed for three days in a row - as a result, the height of the snowdrifts in the capital reached 60 centimeters, which was twice the climate norm. Serious transport problems arose in the city - evening traffic jams reached 10 points. The famous Miusskaya snow dune has again appeared in the center - a large pile of snow on Miusskaya Square, which utility workers removed in the middle of the month (this place is usually used as a transfer point for snow brought from nearby streets). Similar snowy mountains have grown in other areas of the city. As reported by the meteorological observatory of Moscow State University, January 2026 in Moscow was the snowiest in the last 203 years. Since January 30, an orange weather danger level has been introduced in Moscow and the Moscow region. Temperatures over the weekend are expected to drop to minus 20-25 degrees Celsius. This is what Moscow looks like these days.
