The script for the unreleased David Lynch series was promised to be published online

One Reddit user asked where they could read director David Lynch's script for the unfinished TV series Unscripted Night. The forum participant received an unexpected response from the director’s daughter, Jennifer Lynch.

It was originally planned that Unscripted Night would be produced by Netflix. The series was supposed to consist of 20-25 episodes, and among its potential participants the names of such actors as Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern and Naomi Watts were named. However, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic, filming was postponed indefinitely. As a result, Lynch's final series never came to fruition.

It was also assumed that the cinematographer would be Peter Deming, who shot Mulholland Drive and the third season of Twin Peaks. Deming also said after Lynch’s death that there was a big mystery in the plot, which brought the series closer to the detective genre.

“It took me three hours to read the script because it was so thick, but it’s definitely not Twin Peaks.” It really was an interesting... mysterious, I would say, story. Yes, it's a shame. That's true, because it would be great to do his show again," Deming told The Film Stage.

Fans of Lynch's work have long been concerned with the question of what happened to the script for the unreleased series. It was answered by the director’s daughter Jennifer Lynch, who also connected her life with the film industry.

“The script will most likely be published either by me or my brothers. We want to show fans something that was never realized. Therefore, I ask everyone to wait for the official release and not to hunt for pirated versions of the script and its non-original copies. This could ruin the beautiful work Dad created. Like many millions of people, we are big fans of our father’s work and want him to be talked about,” Lynch wrote in a Reddit discussion.

Director and screenwriter David Lynch, known for films such as Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet, as well as the television series Twin Peaks, died on January 16, 2025. He was 78 years old.
