On the morning of February 8, the FSB reported that 65-year-old Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba, suspected of an attempt on the life of the First Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (formerly GRU), Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, was detained in Dubai and handed over to the Russian Federation. Korba had already been taken to Moscow and arrested (this happened on February 7). The FSB calls him “the direct perpetrator of the crime.”

Two more people are involved in the case: 66-year-old Russian citizen Viktor Vasin and 54-year-old Russian citizen Zinaida Serebritskaya. The FSB said that Vasin was detained in Moscow, and Serebritskaya “went to Ukraine.”

What is known about the assassination attempt

The assassination attempt on Lieutenant General of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Vladimir Alekseev was committed on the morning of February 6. The general was shot several times at the entrance of his house on Volokolamsk Highway in Moscow. Alekseev was hospitalized in serious condition. On February 7, it was reported that the general regained consciousness after the operation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the assassination attempt on Alekseev “confirmed the Zelensky regime’s focus on constant provocations, aimed in turn at disrupting the negotiation process.” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga rejected accusations that Kiev was involved in the assassination attempt.

The FSB also published footage from CCTV cameras, which allegedly shows the alleged perpetrator of the assassination attempt leaving a gun in a snowdrift.

Later, the Investigative Committee made a statement. It says that Korba is a native of the Ternopil region. According to investigators, he arrived in Moscow at the end of December 2025 on instructions from the Ukrainian special services to carry out a terrorist attack. At the scene of the attack, investigators found a Makarov pistol with a silencer installed and three cartridges.

The “agency,” citing leaked data, reported that in 2021 Korba was registered in the city of Nyagan, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, where he arrived from the Ternopil region (when this happened is unknown). In Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, a man worked as a machine operator. Later, as follows from the leaks, he lived in Ramenskoye near Moscow and in Moscow on Boytsovaya Street. The Baza telegram channel, close to the security forces, claims that Korba also had Ukrainian citizenship; The same data is provided by a TASS source. He has had a Russian passport since 2001.

“Baza”, “Agency”, TASS and telegram channel “112” write that Korba and Vasin knew each other for many years. So, in 2016, as the Agency reports with reference to leaks, Korba received two transfers for 4.5 thousand rubles from Vasin. According to Baza, Vasin and Korba met in 2015 at officer courses (according to 112, they have known each other for 20 years).

Vasin was born in Biysk, Altai Territory, and at various times worked at the State Budgetary Institution “Zhilishchnik”, the Research Institute of the Baking Industry and the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. “Baza” calls Vasin a former officer and ex-head of the security department of a certain Moscow company. “112” writes that he graduated from a branch of the Budyonny Military Academy of Communications, and also “improved his skills in satellite communications” at the Central Officers Club of the USSR Armed Forces. “Base” claims that Vasin had debts, so he agreed to help Korba. According to the channel, he got a Makarov pistol with a silencer for Korba. There is no confirmation of this information. “Novaya Gazeta Europe” and “Agency” found Vasin’s name in the merged databases of FBK supporters.

The third defendant in the assassination case, Zinaida Serebritskaya, lived with General Alekseev in the same house, writes Shot, another telegram channel close to the security forces. Novaya Gazeta Europe found messages from a woman in a group of residents of a house at 24 Volokolamsk Highway. She shared recipes, clarified the intercom code for entry and complained about poorly functioning batteries. According to Shot, Zinaida previously had the last name Antonyuk, but she changed it when receiving Russian citizenship (when this happened is not specified). She moved into the house where Alekseev lives in December 2025. According to leaks, Antonyuk was born in the village of Khoroshoe, Slavyanoserbsky district, Lugansk region. According to Baza, the woman collected information about the general’s movements.

“She collected information about when he was at home, about his work schedule. The woman also talked with the general’s neighbors, collecting information about his life. Using the chat, she found out the intercom code for the entrances and where the CCTV cameras were located,” a law enforcement source told TASS.
