The girl came to Fashion Week dressed as her grandfather and ended up in Vogue

A photograph of model from Kyrgyzstan Shadiya Isaeva was included in Vogue magazine’s selection of the best street style images following the results of Seoul Fashion Week. At the event, the girl appeared in her grandfather’s chapan and grandmother’s scarf. Chapan is a traditional Kyrgyz outerwear worn over a casual suit.

According to Isaeva, the idea for the image appeared spontaneously on the fourth day of the show. She didn’t have a national costume with her, so she decided to wear things that she got from her loved ones.

“If I had the opportunity, I would like to show our national very beautiful clothes with decorations. But I only had a green chapan from my grandfather and a white scarf from my grandmother, which my brother brought me to Korea just a year ago,” the model told reporters.

Isaeva noted that she wanted to honor the memory of her relatives and show elements of Kyrgyz culture through personal history. According to her, she did not expect a wide response.

However, she was noticed at the show by South Korean photographer Young Chul Kim. Isaeva’s photo later appeared in The Best Street Style Photos From the Fall 2026 Shows in Seoul on the Vogue Runway platform. In the photo, the model is captured in an emerald chapan with gold embroidery and a white scarf with red poppies. Previously, the media wrote that clothes made from old Soviet blankets and bedspreads had become fashionable. This is due both to the trend towards eco-friendliness and reuse of materials, and to a general nostalgia for things from the past.
