Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov (“New People”) collected more than one million signatures against the blocking of the Telegram messenger in Russia.
Davankov announced his initiative on January 21. He invited Telegram users to leave signatures against blocking the messenger, and also to sign an open letter to Pavel Durov “calling to open a representative office in Russia.” Davankov explained that the opening of a representative office “will deprive Roskomnadzor of the grounds for blocking.”
They started collecting signatures in a special bot “#TelegramLive”. As of the evening of February 16, according to the bot’s message, “there are already 1,147,956 users against blocking Telegram.” And “1,000,589 people have already signed the open letter to Durov.”
It is not entirely clear how many signatures the same user could have left. As Meduza discovered, an initiative can be voted on several times. At the same time, judging by the data of the “#TelegramLive” bot, about 260 thousand users visited it in a month.
Dear readers! The Russian authorities seem to have decided to finally break Telegram. What to do? Urgently download the Jellyfish app. It can bypass blocks - no VPN needed!
