Writer, literary critic and journalist Dmitry Bavilsky died
In Chelyabinsk, at the age of 58, the writer, playwright, literary and music critic, and journalist Dmitry Bavilsky died. Literary critic Nikolai Podosokorsky announced this on social networks on Tuesday. He noted that Bavilsky kept a blog on LiveJournal under the nickname “paslen”.
In 1993, Dmitry Bavilsky graduated from Chelyabinsk State University, then completed graduate school with a degree in foreign literature. He was deputy editor-in-chief of the Uralskaya Nov magazine, worked as an assistant to the artistic director of the Chelyabinsk Academic Drama Theater in the literary department, and editor of the cultural department of the online publication Vzglyad and the online publication Private Correspondent.
In 2010-2016, he led the prose department at the online magazine "Window". Member of the editorial board of the magazines "Ural" and "Novy Bereg".
Bavilsky is the author of the novels "The Library of Babylon" (1998), "The Nightshade Family" (2000), "The Potato Eaters" (2001), "Angels First" (2002), "Nodelma" (2003), "Gagarin's Last Love" (2004-2007), "Red Dot" (2017). Winner of two awards from the magazine "New World", (2006, 2009), Andrei Bely Prize (2014), special prize of the All-Russian Literary Critical Prize "Furious Vissarion" (2020) and others.
Since 1996, Dmitry Bavilsky has been a member of the Union of Russian Writers and the Literary Fund of Russia. He was also a full member of the Academy of Russian Modern Literature and a member of the Russian PEN Center (from 2014 to 2016). Bavilsky has repeatedly taken part in Radio Liberty programs.
