US President Donald Trump extended for another year the restrictions imposed against Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine, according to data from the US Federal Register.
We are talking about US sanctions imposed in 2014, 2018 and 2022.
“The actions and policies [of the Russian authorities] addressed in these executive orders continue to pose an extraordinary and extraordinary threat to the national security interests and foreign policy of the United States,” the document says. It was signed on February 18.
- US authorities have extended sanctions despite ongoing trilateral negotiations to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. Washington acts as a mediator in them.
- On February 17, The Economist published an article about the “greatest deal” that Russia allegedly promised the United States in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. According to journalists, the agreement was discussed by the special representative of the Russian President Kirill Dmitriev and the special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff. Dmitriev said that the publication of The Economist is a “fake stuff”.
