A resident of Apatity who attacked the governor of the Murmansk region with a knife died in the war

A resident of the city of Apatity, Alexander Bydanov, convicted of attacking the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrei Chibis, died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. As the media reported, Bydanov’s relatives reported this on his VKontakte page.

The message says that Bydanov died on January 4, 2026 “during a special military operation while performing a combat mission.” No other details are provided in the post.

The governor was wounded in the stomach, and the attacker received a bullet wound to the leg during arrest. A few days later, Chibis was discharged from the hospital. During the interrogation, the Investigative Committee reported, Bydanov explained the attack by personal hostility towards the governor. In court, Bydanov apologized to the governor. In October 2024, the court sentenced Bydanov to 13 years in a maximum security colony. While still in pre-trial detention, the accused stated that he wanted to go to war.
