
Seven people were killed and 10 more were injured as a result of a night attack by Ukrainian drones on the Dorogobuzh chemical plant in the Smolensk region, the Investigative Committee reported. This makes the strike on production located in the Russian rear the deadliest since May 2024, when an attack on an agricultural enterprise in the Belgorod region killed eight people.
Details. The Dorogobuzh plant was hit on Wednesday night. The Investigative Committee reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used at least 30 UAVs, as a result of which the plant’s infrastructure, the fire department building, and a fire-fighting vehicle were damaged.
The department announced the initiation of a criminal case under the article of terrorism.
In the Smolensk region, after the attack, classes in kindergartens were canceled and schools were transferred to distance learning, said the regional governor Vasily Anokhin. The attacked Dorogobuzh plant produces fertilizers. According to the plant’s website , it produces, among other things, ammonia and ammonium nitrate. The plant is owned by Acron. Its co-owner, Vyacheslav Kantor, came under EU sanctions in 2022 as close to the Russian authorities, but in 2025 he was excluded from the list. He is still under UK sanctions for his ties to Vladimir Putin and his work at a company of “strategic importance to the Russian government.”
The Ukrainian telegram channel Exilenova+ wrote that the workshop for the production of azofoska, a fertilizer whose production is based on ammonia, nitric acid and nitrates, which the channel calls dual-use substances, was probably attacked. “Such chemical capacities are a resource base for the production of explosives and other materials for the military-industrial complex,” the channel wrote.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have already attacked this plant on December 11 and 16 .

Context. The largest attack in terms of number of victims on a Russian enterprise in the rear occurred in May 2024 in the Belgorod region. Then the UAV hit cars that were transporting employees of the Agro-Belgorodye pork producing enterprise in the Belgorod region, killing eight people and injuring more than 40.
