This is a summary of US President Donald Trump's speech at the Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House in Washington on March 2. Trump made his first live speech since the US and Israel went to war against Iran on February 28.
We went to war because Iran was not going to stop developing nuclear weapons. This was our last and best chance to strike. Iran already had missiles capable of hitting Europe and our bases, and would soon acquire missiles capable of reaching the beautiful America. Our goals are clear: destroy Iran's missile capabilities and its navy, ensure that the world's leading sponsor of terrorism never acquires nuclear weapons, and cannot direct terrorists beyond its borders. From the very beginning we predicted that the war would last four to five weeks. We are already well ahead of projections, but we can last much longer, however long it takes. Today someone said that I want to do everything quickly, otherwise I will “get bored.” I'm not bored. There's nothing boring about it. We have the strongest and most powerful army in the world, and we will easily win.
