US President Donald Trump called Iran "a terrible country that is out of control." He also assessed the military operation, which is now in its fifth day, the White House said in a YouTube broadcast.
“Someone asked how you would rate the situation on a scale of one to ten. I answered about 15 out of 10,” Trump said during a roundtable on consumer protection.
The head of the White House noted that if “the United States had not struck Iran first, Iran would have done it to Israel.” According to Trump, bad things happen when “crazy people have nuclear weapons.
During the roundtable, Trump also said that he has no idea who could lead Iran after the assassination of the country's former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. “Everyone who wants to be a leader ends up dying,” the US President explained. Iran's Council of Experts later elected Khamenei's son Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's new supreme leader.
Earlier, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said during a call with the press that 49 senior Iranian leaders were killed during the operation against Iran. She also added that American intelligence is monitoring the successors of the murdered Khamenei.
Trump announced the start of military operations against Iran on February 28, 2026. The United States and Israel launched joint massive missile attacks on Iranian territory.
US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff spoke about the content of the negotiations with Iran that took place at the beginning of the year. As the Times of Israel wrote, Iranian negotiators directly threatened the United States with the creation of nuclear weapons.
