“This plant produced electronics, components for Russian missiles. Precisely those that hit our cities, our villages, civilians. We are defending ourselves. Russia can long ago end this war, which it itself started,” said Vladimir Zelensky. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that the target of the attack was the production of control systems for Russian missiles. The strike was carried out by British Storm Shadow missiles.
"Silicon El" is a critical link in the production chain of Russian precision weapons. The plant specializes in discrete semiconductor technology and integrated circuits, which are the “brains” and “nervous system” of modern weapons, in particular Iskander missiles, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said . It is not clear how many missiles were used to hit the plant.

The moment of the described strike can be seen in the footage taken by the DVR of a passing car: one of the missiles hits the road, which is located a few hundred meters from the Kremniy plant. The car then begins to drive away from the ring, but the camera films another explosion a hundred meters from the plant.
The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, announced a missile danger in the city almost half an hour later - at 17:55. He called the incident a “terrorist missile attack,” without initially specifying its consequences. Bogomaz said that in the Sovetsky district of Bryansk there was “smoke from combustion products,” but did not directly link the fire to the attack. The governor recommended that citizens “limit their presence on the street” and close their windows, and also mentioned the “evacuation of citizens,” but did not provide details about how and where it was carried out. An hour later, the authorities lifted the “missile danger” regime.
- Lord, it’s as if it’s not clear without him. "Close the windows"! In fact, they were knocked out of us, it would be something to close,” notes Olga , who lives in a house on Kostycheva Street. “The cold was terrible, there was terrible smog all around, it was difficult to breathe, but there was no evacuation. And I couldn’t even get out to my mother, at least her windows were intact, because the explosions happened at rush hour - all of Bryansk was in traffic jams. I just blocked the window in the room with blankets, covered myself and prayed while the sirens screamed. What else was left to do?
According to Sever.Realii's interlocutors, sirens have been heard constantly in the city in recent months, so in remote areas of Bryansk residents did not even understand what had happened.
– My mother in Antonovka (near Bryansk) heard sirens, but did not see the explosion. Only the wind brought the smog. She didn’t even know that she had to hide. To be honest, we in the city are so used to these sirens, we don’t usually hide either,” says Olga. – Yes, and there is nowhere [to hide], there are no bomb shelters in my area. Maybe in the basement of the nearest house. There were mostly drones. Since the summer of 2023, they have constantly flown up to the plant. We're already used to it. It's a military [factory]. My uncle constantly tells my mother and me to move to Dubna with him. “You are only a little over 100 kilometers from the border, the defense is nearby, it’s dangerous.” We thought: what's the point? There were arrivals there too!
Many in Belgorod say that they are already accustomed to what is happening.
– We just live as we live. It’s scary at first, the first months, but then you get used to it. Well, there's the unmanned danger again. Well, we arrived again, and in the morning, it seemed like the sun had risen, everything was fine,” says Tatyana. – When you’re just bringing your kids to practice, and a signal comes in about a missile danger, you swipe it up on your phone, well, danger and danger. You get used to this weekly buzz, especially every weekend, well, it buzzes and buzzes. True, when you hear a roar and see black smoke, you understand that it is near your house. You start frantically calling everyone to see if you’ve lived or if everything is okay with them. And then you shake, you can’t get home, and you wonder if everything is okay with your house.
Today the atmosphere is, of course, heavy, because it just happened, but the children went to school, everyone went to work, the sun, people are sitting in cafes, yes, there is talk about missiles, and about damage, and about huge holes in the asphalt. But in general, to say that something has changed seriously, fundamentally, and it is strongly felt that this is a direct war - no, there is no such thing.
– Is there any talk about who is to blame for what is happening?
– The Western authorities are to blame, not ours. But I can’t speak for the whole city, especially for those families where people suffered. Everyone has their own opinion, but everyone adheres to it silently. Now my daughter has come home from school and tells how the girl was sitting alone at home, doing her homework, and her kitchen window was broken. She was scared, she and the cat ran into the basement. And many people who were standing on the ring at that moment saw everything, these missiles, at that moment, yes, it was scary. And now, it seems to me, we are simply so used to it, or is it a mental property that we are not fully aware of the consequences and all this danger. There is light, there is heat, there is water, well, and everything seems to be fine.
Even those who live in border towns, where people sometimes cannot leave their homes and go to a neighboring town because of drones and constant shelling, still do not leave there. I don't know why. Nobody wants to change their usual way of life, probably. We knew from the very beginning that we lived in a border region. We knew that this would happen, that it was only a matter of time,” says Tatyana.
Videos taken by Bryansk residents during and after the strikes show damaged houses and cars burning on the road. Commentators claim that the rocket hit someone’s car, and the author of one of the videos claims that 150-200 meters from the Kremniy plant, a local resident’s arm was “torn off.”
According to Astra, one of the missiles hit the assembly shop of the plant. The explosion also occurred , judging by the videos, on the territory of the Bryansk College of Management and Business, which is located next to the enterprise.

Local residents write in chats that after the explosions, serious damage occurred in the assembly shop, and many people remained under the rubble. Official information that there are people under the rubble has not been confirmed.
"Silicon El" is a powerful, second-largest manufacturer of electronic components in the Russian Federation. Its products are found in many electronic components of Russian weapons. For example, this plant supplies components for the new Russian cruise missile Izdeliye-30, writes Defense Express, a company specializing in military-technical topics.
