“What is Bogomaz saying now? This is a complete lie"

The attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Bryansk on March 10 is the largest in the city in terms of the number of victims since the beginning of the war. Residents say they had nowhere to hide; authorities promise large payments to families of victims

In the border town of Bryansk on March 10, the largest attack in terms of the number of victims since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine took place. The Ukrainian Armed Forces fired at the Silicon El microelectronics plant, hitting a neighboring technical school and several residential buildings. According to the latest data , as a result of the Ukrainian strike, seven city residents were killed, 42 people were injured, 29 of them were hospitalized. The cooperative of independent journalists "Bereg" collected everything that is known about this attack and its victims two days later, studied what residents of Bryansk wrote about what was happening in the city on social networks, and spoke with one of the residents about how she and her family survived the shelling. How the events developed on March 10 and the next day

At about four o'clock in the afternoon on March 10, a missile threat was declared in the Sevsky district of the Bryansk region, and then throughout the entire region . A couple of hours later, residents began writing on social networks about powerful explosions.

The Ukrainian army attacked the Silicon El microelectronics plant. In the Sovetsky district of Bryansk, where the enterprise is located, smoke was noticed, after which the entrances to the plant were blocked. The plant's assembly shop was hit several times. As ASTRA writes , citing city residents, there was “serious damage” in the workshop, and many people were under the rubble. Administrative buildings on the territory of the plant were also damaged.

At approximately seven in the evening, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, wrote about the strike on his Telegram channel, adding that there were casualties and deaths in the city. He did not give the exact date in that post, nor did he specify that the attack took place at the plant. Bogomaz warned residents about “smoke from combustion products in the Sovetsky district.”

“At first I heard explosions. Powerful. At first I didn’t even get up to look, but the explosions were unusually loud. And it seems close. <…> I looked out the window - people were running into the entrances. Then there were such clouds of smoke that at first I decided that the city center had been bombed, the administration - it seemed that it was very close, it was so tall and thick,” a user with the nickname Max wrote in one of the local Telegram channels.

ASTRA also reported that due to the strike on Silicon El, the building of the Bryansk College of Management and Business, which is located next to the plant, was damaged. Eyewitness footage showed smoke rising above the building of the technical school. And judging by numerous photos and videos on social networks, another Ukrainian missile hit the roadway and a car on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street, about 250 meters from the plant. The next day, March 11, the publication “Our Bryansk” wrote that “a huge crater is being sealed” in the road surface on this street. “Repair work is also underway in the damaged residential buildings,” the same note says.

On the evening of March 10, the attack on Bryansk was confirmed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He clarified that the plant “produced control systems for all types of Russian missiles.”

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clarified that the Ukrainian army used long-range cruise missiles Storm Shadow, and reported “target destruction and significant damage to the production capacity” of the plant. It is not specified how many missiles the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired at Bryansk.

Analysts of the Ukrainian OSINT project “CyberBoroshno” claim that at least seven cruise missiles hit the territory of “Silicon El”. The first hit on the plant's territory occurred at five o'clock in the evening - approximately seven minutes after the missiles were detected in the Pogarsky district of the Bryansk region.

Analysts said the missiles approached the plant from different directions, but mostly from the east. Five missiles hit building No. 4, two hit production buildings. According to CyberBoroshno, such a route may indicate that Ukrainian systems bypassed Russian air defense protection zones: they used a more complex flight route, which is typical for Storm Shadow.

Later, Governor Bogomaz confirmed that at least seven rockets exploded in the city, and the Russian Investigative Committee reported eight rockets and opened a criminal case for a terrorist attack.

According to residents of Bryansk, during the attack they did not hear the characteristic sounds of air defense. In local telegram channels, users wrote : “Not a single missile was shot down.”

“In the 5th microdistrict, there is practically no sound after the all-Russian inspection [of the notification, which took place on March 4]. The neighbors are doing renovations - I thought they were vacuuming at the same time. If it weren’t for the notification from the RSChS , we would have gone for a walk with the child,” user Natalya wrote in a telegram.

The same information was confirmed to the Agency by OSINT analyst Kirill Mikhailov. According to him, the lack of air defense response could be due to the characteristics of the missile: Storm Shadows fly at low altitude, and therefore are considered a difficult target.

Alexander Bogomaz did not report on the number of missiles destroyed.

Among the wounded is a minor, Bogomaz reported. His condition on March 12 was assessed as stable. Some of the victims in serious condition were taken to Moscow, from where, according to Bogomaz, eight resuscitation teams arrived in Bryansk.

Some local media wrote news about one of the dead - 34-year-old Denis Evlanov from the city of Starodub, Bryansk region. The first message about his death appeared in the VK group “Typical Starodub”. Evlanov’s body was recovered from the rubble on March 11. He is survived by his wife and son. The public post does not say whether Evlanov worked at the Silicon El plant.

The regional government declared March 11 a day of mourning. At the same time, spontaneous memorials appeared in Bryansk, to which local residents began to bring flowers. One of the memorials appeared at the foot of the Mound of Immortality; a sign was placed there with the inscription: “03/10/2026. We mourn. Bryansk".

One of the residents of Bryansk, Alina (name changed), told Bereg that during the attack on March 10, she was at home and talking via video call with her husband, who had gone to work: “He says: “Something is whistling, I don’t understand.” He saw all these missiles perfectly, they were flying over the roof, over the car. I ducked down in the car, thinking it was going to fly. <…> I hid the children in the hallway and closed all the doors. The windows were rattling."

According to Alina, neither she nor her husband heard the sound of air defense. She also noted that the number of victims “could reach hundreds.” During the attack, Alina’s acquaintance was present at the Silicon El plant: she told her friend that at that hour the first shift had finished work, and the second group of workers came for her.

“What is Bogomaz saying now? This is a complete lie,” says Alina. She adds that before moving to Bryansk, her family lived in the border zone of the region. “All our villages were killed there. Bogomaz didn’t say a word,” says Bereg’s interlocutor.

In addition, residents of Bryansk complained on social networks about the lack of shelters and a missile alarm in some areas. “This time, even the intercoms were not turned off; it was impossible to enter the entrance without opening it with the key. Not to mention the shelters that don’t exist,” said one of the residents of Bryansk in a telegram. “Where could people go? Should we wear invisibility hats? — wrote another city resident.

Alina, in a conversation with Bereg, notes that the Bryansk residents really had nowhere to hide from the attack: “Maybe Pyaterochka? Where should people hide? All wounded and dead. [Almost] no one says in the media that helicopters and planes flew to us from Moscow to pick up the victims.”

As Bereg noted, in one of the largest local telegram channels, Bryansk Online (31 thousand subscribers), there were no posts about the March 10 attack.

Previously, Alina, her husband and three children lived in the Klimovsky district in the southwest of the Bryansk region, but due to increased shelling they had to move to Bryansk. “My daughter already knows [what happens during shelling], she saw how legs are torn off, what it’s like when a boy on a bicycle dies before your eyes. She is very afraid. [The sons] are foolish boys. They think that their stupid mother locked them in a little room, [away] from the windows, from everything,” says Alina.

Bereg's interlocutor adds that after the attack on March 10, she thought about moving even further from the border, for example to St. Petersburg. “With every rustle and bang, we get so scared that our hearts sink into our heels. <…> What we saw yesterday [March 10] is another fear for us.”

The regional authorities promise to pay compensation to the victims and families of the victims.

The press service of the city administration claims that a psychologist is now working with the victims, and assures that they are provided with housing, basic necessities and humanitarian aid.

In addition, the city authorities posted on their social networks the story of local resident Ekaterina Mamatkhonova - that after the attack, the families of the victims were placed in a hotel. According to the Bryansk resident, personal hygiene products and household chemicals were brought there, and volunteers organized a tea party. “We have allocated two rooms. They feed for free. Caring people gave my children toys,” she said.

After the attack, state commissions assess the condition of facades, houses and apartments. “Currently there are more than 150 [damaged apartments], but presumably there will be about 200,” said Governor Bogomaz.

According to the regional head, more than 20 cars and 33 commercial facilities were damaged, including a car repair shop, catering facilities and a dental clinic.

Bogomaz promised to pay compensation in the amount of 1.5 million rubles to the families of the victims. The victims will receive from 300 to 600 thousand rubles, depending on the injury.
