In Makhachkala, city authorities declared a state of emergency due to flooding. The mayor's office asks residents to move around the city less and, if something happens, call emergency services. 30 units of equipment were taken to the streets to clear away rubble and blockages.

According to the social networks of a network of officials, “since night, the first deputy head of Makhachkala and the head of housing and communal services have been cruising around the city and taking measures to eliminate flooding.”

60 Makhachkala residents whose houses were damaged due to flooding will be resettled.

Authorities cite incessant rainfall and a “critical load” on storm sewer systems as the cause of flooding in the regional capital.

“It is important to note that the storm networks of Makhachkala were cleared of dirt and debris in advance,”

assured the city's municipal services. Governor Melikov confirmed that the authorities were “preparing for worsening weather.”

Rospotrebnadzor of the Republic issued a warning to residents, obliging them to boil tap water for at least three minutes before drinking, including for making ice, and, if possible, stop drinking it altogether and temporarily switch to bottled water. Especially for children, pregnant women and the elderly.
