Mourning was declared in Nizhnekamsk after the explosion at the Sibur plant: three were killed, more than 70 were injured.

The Nizhnekamsk authorities have canceled all entertainment and public events in the city for three days, and state flags will be flown at half-staff on institutional buildings.

“This is a time of grief and support. We share the pain of loss with the families of the victims. Nizhnekamsk, we are together,” wrote the mayor of the city, Radmir Belyaev.

According to the latest data, three people died as a result of the tragedy and another 72 were injured. Ten victims were transported to Moscow by a special flight of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

• Local residents and environmentalists spoke of a chemical smell in the city and a sore throat. At the same time, as the mayor claimed, Rospotrebnadzor did not find excess levels of hazardous substances in the air.

• Nizhnekamskneftekhim is one of the largest petrochemical enterprises in Europe. The plant produces synthetic rubbers, plastics and other chemical products.
