After the phone call, according to Magyar Hírlap, Vance said: “Wow, it’s hard to say anything after this. I will try to perform as best as possible. We are committed to the re-election of Viktor Orbán, right?”

Against this background, the leader of the opposition party Tisza and Orban’s competitor in the parliamentary elections, Peter Magyar, released a statement on the occasion of Vance’s arrival in Hungary. “No foreign country has the right to interfere in elections in Hungary. This is our country. The history of Hungary is not written in Washington, not in Moscow or in Brussels - it is written in the streets and squares of Hungary,” he said.

According to the Politico Poll of Polls project, which collects data from various public opinion polls, Peter Magyar's Tisza party can count on 49% of the vote in the elections, while Viktor Orban's Fidesz party can only get 39%.
