RuStore will launch VPN without YouTube, Telegram and Instagram

The developers promise that their product “will not create legal difficulties”

The Russian catalog of mobile applications and games RuStore is developing a “built-in VPN solution” for accessing foreign resources that have limited work in Russia. This is stated in the service questionnaire for analyzing user preferences, which is at the disposal of Vorstka.

The developers indicate that the VPN will have two tariffs: free with access to Russian sites (Government services, banks) from abroad and paid for “legal and safe access” to foreign services. Among them are neural networks, working tools and educational platforms.

It is separately noted that the messengers Telegram, WhatsApp, as well as YouTube, Netflix, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook will not work with this extension. Among the advantages of VPN from RuStore, representatives of the project call the user’s confidence that he “will not create legal difficulties for himself” when using the program.

Following the description of the service in the questionnaire there is a block in which respondents need to answer how much they agree with six statements about the work of the service. For example, with the phrases “VPN from RuStore is more reliable than other similar services” and “This VPN service is relevant for me personally.”

Users are also asked whether they would consider using the VPN, which subscription format (annual or monthly) they find most convenient, and the price they paid to access the service. Separately, respondents, depending on their answers, are asked to tell whether they are willing to spend a certain amount on a subscription, including 999 rubles per month and 8 thousand rubles per year as a subscription.

In addition, study participants must answer questions about whether they use VPNs in general and with what frequency, as well as indicate the name of the services and the cost of subscription in case of paid access.

Earlier, RBC reported that the Ministry of Digital Development asked the largest services in terms of the Russian audience (Sberbank, Yandex, VK, Wildberries, Ozon, Avito and others) to help block VPNs. It is expected that by April 15, companies will have to restrict access to users who have a blacklisted VPN enabled.

As Vystka previously reported, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses adopted last year provide for fines for using a VPN to gain access to “extremist” materials : in the amount of 50 to 200 thousand rubles for individuals, from 80 to 300 thousand for officials, from 200 thousand to 1 million rubles for legal entities.

At the beginning of this year, Roskomnadzor tried to block VPN services , but their developers managed to bypass these restrictions. Then they started talking about introducing an additional fee for the use of foreign traffic in general above a certain established limit and a ban on visiting popular Russian services when VPN is turned on.
