A federal state of emergency was introduced in Dagestan and Chechnya due to floods

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, announced on April 9 that due to floods in Chechnya and Dagestan, a federal emergency situation had been established.

“Taking into account the current situation and taking into account the reports we have heard, it was decided to classify the situation in the territory of the Republic of Dagestan and the Chechen Republic as a federal emergency and establish a federal level of response,” the minister said at a meeting in Makhachkala.

• Flooding in Dagestan began on the night of April 5 due to heavy rains. Houses were flooded in cities and villages, and interruptions in water and electricity supplies began in the region. Avalanches and mudflows occurred in the mountains. The flood killed six people, including three children. More than six thousand people were affected by the flood. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of April 9, 1,091 residential buildings, 1,146 household plots and 70 road sections remain flooded in eight settlements of Dagestan.
• Prior to this, flooding in the North Caucasus occurred at the end of March, it affected Dagestan and Chechnya. According to the authorities, more than three thousand houses were damaged in Chechnya, residents of Gudermes and several other settlements were evacuated. 30 bridges were damaged: 15 automobile and 15 pedestrian.
