Starmer: 'I'm fed up with energy bills constantly going up because of Putin or Trump'

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in an interview with ITV News published on the evening of April 9 that he is not happy that energy bills rise and fall due to the actions of the presidents of the United States and Russia.

"I'm fed up with families across the country seeing their energy bills constantly jumping - as well as business bills - because of the actions of Putin or Trump somewhere in the world," the British prime minister said.

In a column published in The Guardian seven minutes after the interview aired, Starmer wrote that because of the war in the Middle East, the UK government had curbed rising energy bills and invested heavily in developing its own energy sector to “eliminate dependence on tyrants who manipulate gas prices.”

• The invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops in February 2022 led to a sharp increase in energy prices, as did the war between the United States and Israel with Iran, which began on February 28. Moreover, after the United States and Iran agreed on a two-week ceasefire on the night of April 8, prices for raw materials fell sharply.
