Former United Russia senator Dmitry Savelyev was sentenced to 10 years in the case of attempted murder of a business partner

Former senator from the Tula region Dmitry Savelyev was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a maximum security colony for the attempted murder of his former business partner Sergei Ionov, Mediazona reported on April 13.

According to the prosecution, Savelyev decided to kill his business partner because of a conflict over a stake in the Optomonitoring company. At that moment, Ionov was serving time in a colony. Savelyev, through his acquaintances, was going to pay 100 thousand dollars for his murder. One of the participants in the chain contacted the FSB.

Savelyev did not admit guilt.

• Dmitry Savelyev headed the Transneft company in 1998-1999, then worked as a State Duma deputy for 17 years. He became a senator from the Tula region in 2016, holding this post until his arrest in August 2024. He was a member of the United Russia party. It is under sanctions from the United States, the European Union and other Western countries.
