A rare bird flies to the beach

There are new emissions of petroleum products in Anapa. Birds are being rescued there again and clay is being removed from the coastal strip

On April 11, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory reported that an oil spill had been discovered in the Black Sea near the coast of Anapa.

The spot was seen from a passing ship. The rainbow film was treated with a biosorbent. Booms were installed. Under the influence of the wind, a slick of oil products moved from the open sea to the Anapa coast. The operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory claims that the oil slick was formed as a result of an attack by a Ukrainian UAV on one of the civilian ships in the Black Sea. The operational headquarters did not specify which specific vessel we are talking about and what the size of the oil slick is. Ecologist Evgeniy Vitishko reports that we are talking about a spill of 300–350 tons of oil products, and the area of ​​the oil spill is 100 square kilometers, as evidenced by satellite images.

Over the course of two days, April 9–10, more than a hundred birds caught in an oil trap were found on the beaches of Anapa.

They were received by the Zhemchuzhnaya rehabilitation center. On the evening of April 10, the center asked for help - there were a lot of injured birds, and the resources of rescuers were limited. The distress signal looked like this: “Guys, SOOO! Last 7 bottles of Fairy... Please order wb/ozone for tomorrow at Vityazevo, st. Short. Transparent, a lot!”

The rehabilitation center also reported that dozens of birds were washing just seven people, and asked for volunteers to join. During April 11 and 12, more than three hundred injured birds were received at Zhemchuzhnaya. Dozens of birds are found dead on the beaches of Anapa.

Experts suggest that the source of the pollution was a slick of oil products drifting across the Black Sea. On April 12, it reached the shore in the village of Vityazevo, where oil products were released onto the coastal strip. Emergency Situations Ministry employees began cleaning the beach.

On the evening of April 12, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory reported that more than a thousand bags of soil with oil products had been collected on the coastal strip in Vityazevo. Protective walls are being put up again on Anapa beaches, fearing new emissions of petroleum products. Previously, the protective ramparts were removed in anticipation of the early opening of the holiday season.

And not only oil products are removed from the beaches in Anapa, but also clay that was recently brought there. Anapa blogger Yuri Ozarovsky reported on his channel that the removal of lumps of clay and stones from the Miracleon beach in Vityazevo had begun. In March, this beach was filled with sand from a quarry in the Temryuk region as an experiment. They brought 45 thousand cubic meters to the beach and filled a kilometer of beach. The thickness of the sand layer was at least 50 centimeters. According to the plan of Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev, filling Anapa beaches with quarry sand should have allowed them to be opened before the start of the holiday season.

Less than a month after the delivery of quarry sand to the Miracleon beach, Mr. Kondratyev announced that he considered the experiment on filling the beach to be successful and would seek to expand the experiment to all the beaches of Anapa. However, bloggers who visited Miracleon reported that they saw lumps of clay under their feet instead of sand.

Local residents complain that after visiting the beach it takes a long time to wash the clay off their shoes. “They killed the beach,” they say.

Indeed, ecologists immediately pointed out that the sand brought from the quarry is not identical to the sand of Anapa beaches. This is ordinary construction sand, it is clayey. It is characterized by high dust content, which means dust storms are inevitable. The wind carries away the dust, leaving behind the clay. After getting wet, quarry sand forms lumps of clay.

Previously, the beaches of Anapa attracted vacationers with their golden sand. What will be their reaction if they see lumps of clay under their feet that they cannot walk on barefoot?

Ecologist Evgeny Vitishko believes that the import of quarry sand will change the entire ecosystem in the area beyond recognition. He said that the beaches of Anapa are not ready for the opening of the season.

Governor Kondratyev does not agree with the ecologist: he is confident that after filling with quarry sand, Anapa beaches can be opened to vacationers, which he reported to President Putin at the meeting on April 11.
