Violinist and conductor Sergei Stadler has died. He became ill on board a plane flying to Istanbul

People's Artist of Russia, violinist, chief conductor and artistic director of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra Sergei Stadler died on April 20 at the age of 63, Fontanka reported, citing the press service of the governor of St. Petersburg.

According to the publication, the musician became ill on board a plane flying from St. Petersburg to Istanbul. Because of this, the plane landed in Bucharest, doctors tried to resuscitate the artist, but they could not save him.

Sergei Stadler is a master of Russian and world classics. He grew up in a family of musicians in Leningrad, playing the violin from the age of five. In 1995, he became the first performer to have the honor of playing the violin “Il Cannone” by Guarneri del Gesu in open concerts.

He headed the St. Petersburg Conservatory from 2008 to 2011. Founded and headed the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra in 2013.
